Get Out and Circulate!

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a common circulatory ailment. Those who have it suffer from narrowed arteries. This results in a reduced blood flow to the limbs.
People with PAD suffer leg pain while walking and have a significantly increased risk of heart attack or stroke. The condition is caused by atherosclerosis, which thickens the walls of arteries, partially blocking the flow of blood.
Symptoms of PAD can be controlled and possibly halted with basic lifestyle changes.
  1. Quit smoking. Smoking contributes to arterial damage and constriction.
  2. Exercise. Moving your body ;conditions your muscles so they’ll use oxygen more efficiently.
  3. Eat well. Choose a healthful diet rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids.
  4. Avoid pseudoephedrine. Check the labels of cold meds to make sure you're not consuming this ingredient. It constricts blood vessels.
