Compounds in cinnamon may help delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease or prevent it from occurring.

Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia. It is characterized by "tangles" in the brain cells. A new study shows that cinnamaldehyde, which gives cinnamon its sweet smell, may help prevent the tangles.

The spice is also a source of epicatechin, a powerful antioxidant.
